Welcome
Before describing the Climate Navigator, and owing to its timeliness, we are pleased to announce a major "debriefing" conference on the Berkeley Campus, entitled "Beyond Copenhagen." More information may be found at http://beyondcopenhagen.wordpress.com/.
The CITRIS Climate Navigator is a new tool for a new era in the search for solutions for a prosperous low-emissions energy future, one in which mitigating climate change is of critical importance. But also one in which the possibility exists for averting crisis, turning it into opportunity. As this search intensifies, the web-based Climate Navigator platform is a unique forum that builds a virtual community of policymakers, businesspeople, and scientists. By aggregating their knowledge, distilling their insights, and publicizing their debates, the Climate Navigator helps lay the groundwork for tomorrow's successful energy and climate technologies.
This effort is a collaborative partnership with the Copenhagen Climate Council and combines the inputs of numerous individual contributors. It is a continuing research effort at the University of California and welcomes comments and inputs from the global community as we work together toward meeting the world's energy needs while mitigating the impact of that quest on the climate.
Please join us in learning about and debating the many topics relevant to climate change mitigation. Articles in the Climate Navigator are divided into four domains:
- Innovation: where you will find information about the latest technologies, business models, and public policies to support a lower-emissions future.
- Regulation: Policies implemented at all levels of government have created a complex web of incentives and restrictions, which the Navigator will seek to untangle.
- Roadmapping: Roadmaps provide clear paths forward, whether they be for a single technology or for policies to govern world industry, to allow for coordinated efforts to address climate change.
- Models: Models provide ways to test climate change mitigation strategies, as well filters for the flood of available climate data.
- Debates: This page provides the beginning of a gathering point for key debates in Energy/Climate. Each link leads to an existing "debate" page and to provide links to more detailed information contained in other topical wiki pages.
Many of the Affiliates in the energy space for the Climate Navigator program, especially those in the Berkeley Institute for the Environment, may be found in the graphic referenced here. The author of this graphical depiction is Prof. Stefaan J. R. Simons of University College London, a visitor at U.C. Berkeley in the academic year 2009-2010.
