About Climate Navigator

The CITRIS Climate Navigator is a new tool for a new era in the search for solutions for a prosperous low-emissions energy future, one in which mitigating climate change is of critical importance. As this search intensifies, the web-based Climate Navigator platform is unique forum that builds a virtual community of policymakers, businesspeople, and scientists. By aggregating their knowledge, distilling their insights, and publicizing their debates, the Climate Navigator helps lay the groundwork for tomorrow's successful energy and climate technologies.

The Climate Navigator has four main objectives:

  • Improve the use of modeling - by making everyone better consumers of the data and modeling results that inform climate policy
  • Make the debate accessible - between notable climate policy figures and the general public
  • Consolidate, integrate, and disseminate what we know - about technologies, policies, and business approaches to solving the climate challenge
  • Support insightful planning - between business, government, and research to deliver the technologies of the future.

It accomplishes these objectives by incorporating four basic functions into its tool set:

  • The Climate Navigator Wiki uses the proven wiki paradigm to consolidate high-quality knowledge from researchers, businesspeople, and policymakers to the policy community and the general public. The Climate Wiki provides an aggregating emphasis on models, domain knowledge, and roadmapping.
  • The Modeling Portal presents climate policy models, their results, and their differences in a clear, transparent format accessible to all.
  • Roadmaps for Future Technologies organize the dissemination of information on specific technologies for critical applications in climate change mitigation.
  • A Clearinghouse for Information provides links to articles, news summaries, points of view, and an extensive blogging capability via collaboration with the interactive Climate Community managed by the Copenhagen Climate Council.

The Climate Navigator calls on a wide range of senior faculty at CITRIS, U.C. Berkeley, and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, and has close, strategic links with the Copenhagen Climate Council and the Danish think tank Monday Morning.
